The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995 was brought into force to end the discrimination that many disabled people face in their day to day lives. The DDA came into full effect in October 2004 and now applies to all UK service providers - from pubs to hairdressers, newsagents to accountants, offices to care homes, doctors' surgeries to schools.

To comply with the Act all UK services providers should have by now made "reasonable" adjustments to their premises to overcome physical barriers to access and overall functionality.
