Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What experience does Plan-it have?

A. We specialise in all forms of refurbishment and building. Our tradesmen have been doing loft conversions and extensions, painting and decorating, bathroom fitting, kitchen fitting and much more for over 10 years. Our team consists of a variety of experts including master builders, qualified plumbers and electricians.

Q. What sort of disruption should I expect on a major build?

A. Any disruption to the householder is kept to a minimum. For the initial part of the conversion / extension we will not need to gain access to your house. All entry and exit will be through the roof via the scaffold. We will only need to access your house when absolutely necessary.

Q. Are you insured to carry out work on my premises?

A. Yes, we have several types of insurance to cover every aspect or size of job. These include:

Full public liability insurance up to 5 million pounds to cover us for all works undertaken.

Full employers liability insurance up to 10 million pounds.

Full professional indemnity insurance up to 1 million pounds.

Q. How can I tell if I can convert my loft or do an extension?

A. We will visit you at your home FREE OF CHARGE to offer our advice and there we will be able to advise what can and can't be done.

Q. Can I get references for completed loft conversions, extensions or refurbishment?

A. Yes, once we have done the initial estimate we will also provide ample references should you request it. You can also see our Gallery for completed work.

Q. What about Planning Permission and Building Regulations?

A. Some conversions require Planning Permission and all have to adhere to Building Regulations. The quote you receive will include the preparation and submission of Plans to your local authority. Our architectural consultants will serve the appropriate notices and liaise with the authorities on your behalf.

Q. Can you supply architect and structural drawings?

A. No, but you can contact our sister company SDA Architecture who will provide a free survey and initial design concept for your project. They will then oversea the full planning submission and refer you back to us once done.

Q. Do you handle plumbing and electrical works?

A. Yes we handle everything with our own teams of experienced tradesmen. Click on our directory of services to see a full list.

Q. How long will it take to do a loft conversion?

A. This depends upon the type and size of your conversion and the interior works you choose to have done. However, we endeavour to complete building works within the agreed time frame within your building agreement.

Q. How much will a loft conversion cost?

A. Each and every loft conversion is different and therefore the costs vary from property to property. We will be happy to give you an inclusive price following your initial consultation. Please fill out the contact form here to receive a free quotation and visit.

Q. How quickly can work start?

A. We aim to start all works within 2 weeks upon agreement of contract. Most projects can be started within 7 days depending on current work loads. When the work requires planning permission, 2 weeks once the applicable plans are approved.

Q. How do I pay for my projects?

A. We accept an initial deposit followed by stage payments which are calculated by the percentage of work completed at the time of payment. We can also take payment at specific stages of the construction program.

Q. Can you help with arranging finance?

A. No – You best bet is to locate a local finance company as we are not FSA regulated.

Q. What do I need to do next?

A. Fill out the form on the contact us page or use any of the contact details and we will arrange for a free estimate.
